Designation of each of the 15 constituent republics of the Soviet Union, such as the Ukrainian SSR, the Kazakh SSR or the Georgian SSR. All became independent countries in 1991.
Example: Before 1991 Lithuania was officially the Lithuanian SSR.
The Russian SFSR (Soviet Federative Socialist Republic) was the largest republic. The Ukrainian and Byelorussian SSRs held their own seats at the United Nations from 1945, alongside the USSR.

Generating a page's HTML on the server for each request, so the browser receives ready-to-display content instead of an empty shell that JavaScript fills in. SSR improves first-load speed and search-engine indexing for apps built with JavaScript frameworks.
Example: Switching the product pages to SSR cut largest contentful paint by almost a second.
Traditional PHP and Rails sites always rendered on the server; the term gained prominence when frameworks such as Next.js (2016) and Nuxt brought it to React and Vue. After the HTML arrives, client-side JavaScript "hydrates" it to make it interactive. SSR is contrasted with client-side rendering (CSR) and static site generation (SSG).

The SSR, SR, R tier system is common in Japanese mobile games such as Granblue Fantasy and The Idolmaster series. Drop rates for SSR items are typically very low, which drives spending. Some countries require games to disclose these odds.
4. Sum of squares due to regression

In many textbooks, the variation in the outcome explained by a regression model: the sum of squared differences between predicted values and the overall mean. Other texts use SSR for the residual sum of squares instead.
Example: With SSR = 760 and SST = 1,000, the model's R² is 0.76.
When SSR means the explained sum, SST = SSR + SSE and R² = SSR/SST; when it means residual, the roles flip. Labels such as ESS (explained) and RSS (residual) avoid this well-known ambiguity, and software output usually spells out "Regression" and "Residual".
