1. Socially responsible investing
Business & Finance · Stock Market & Investing Abbreviations
Investment approach that considers ethical, social or environmental criteria alongside financial returns, traditionally by excluding sectors such as tobacco, weapons, gambling or fossil fuels. It is a forerunner of today's ESG and impact investing.
Example: The church pension fund follows SRI screens that exclude alcohol and firearms makers.
Early modern SRI campaigns included divestment from apartheid-era South Africa in the 1970s and 1980s. The terms sustainable, responsible and impact investing are now often grouped together. US SIF, the Forum for Sustainable and Responsible Investment, tracks the American market.
2. Subresource Integrity
Technology & Computing · Internet & Web Abbreviations
A browser feature that checks a script or stylesheet loaded from a CDN against a cryptographic hash written in the page's HTML, refusing to use the file if it has been altered. It protects sites from tampered third-party files.
Example: Add the SRI hash to the script tag so a compromised CDN can't inject code.
Became a W3C Recommendation in 2016. The integrity attribute holds a base64-encoded SHA-256, SHA-384 or SHA-512 digest, and cross-origin files also need the crossorigin attribute. SRI works only for files that never change, so it cannot protect scripts that vendors update in place, such as many analytics tags.
