CategoriesTechnology & Computing

SCSS stands for Sassy CSS, an Internet & web abbreviation.

The main syntax of the Sass preprocessor, written with curly braces and semicolons like regular CSS, so any valid CSS file is also valid SCSS. Files use the .scss extension.

Example: Rename styles.css to styles.scss and you can start using variables right away.

Usage notes

Introduced with Sass 3 in 2010 to ease adoption, since the original indented syntax looked unfamiliar to CSS authors. Developers often say "SCSS" and "Sass" interchangeably, though strictly SCSS is one syntax of Sass. Partial files are named with a leading underscore, such as _buttons.scss, and imported into a main stylesheet.
