UAE stands for United Arab Emirates, a country name abbreviation.
Federation of seven emirates (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah) on the Persian Gulf, formed on December 2, 1971. Abu Dhabi is the federal capital, and Dubai is the largest city and a global aviation and trade hub.

Usage notes
The ISO codes are AE and ARE, and the internet domain is .ae, while sports bodies use UAE. Ras Al Khaimah joined the federation in February 1972, a few weeks after the others. December 2 is celebrated as National Day.
