TTFB stands for Time to first byte, an Internet & web abbreviation.
The time between a browser requesting a page and receiving the first byte of the response, covering DNS lookup, connection setup, TLS negotiation and the server's processing. It is a basic measure of server and network responsiveness.
Example: TTFB jumped to 1.8 seconds after the plugin update, so the database queries are the suspect.
Usage notes
Google's guidance treats about 0.8 seconds or less as good for the main document request. Caching pages at a CDN is the most effective way to cut it for distant users. A low TTFB does not guarantee a fast page, since heavy scripts and images can still delay rendering.
