Non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor for HIV, found in Odefsey, Complera and Juluca and as a long-acting injection in Cabenuva. It is better tolerated than efavirenz.
Example: Take RPV-containing tablet with a meal; stop omeprazole and use famotidine instead.
Rilpivirine needs food and stomach acid for absorption, so proton pump inhibitors are contraindicated, and H2 blockers must be timed apart. It is recommended mainly for patients with low viral loads at the start of therapy, since failure rates were higher with very high loads. It can prolong the QT interval at high doses.
