SCIG stands for Subcutaneous immunoglobulin, a drug abbreviation.

Immunoglobulin replacement given under the skin, usually weekly by the patient at home with a small pump, for primary immunodeficiency and some neuropathies such as CIDP. It produces steadier antibody levels than monthly IVIG.

Example: Converted from IVIG to SCIG 10 g weekly via home pump into the abdomen.

Usage notes

Products include Hizentra, Cuvitru and HyQvia; HyQvia is combined with hyaluronidase, which lets larger volumes be infused at one site and allows dosing every three to four weeks. Systemic side effects are fewer than with IVIG, though local swelling at infusion sites is common.
