1. Event-free survival

Time from the start of treatment until any of a defined set of events, such as disease progression that prevents surgery, recurrence after surgery, failure to achieve remission or death. It is common in trials of treatment given before and after surgery and in pediatric and blood cancers.
Example: Perioperative immunotherapy improved 2-year EFS from 52% to 63%.
EFS captures events that DFS cannot, such as tumors that progress during neoadjuvant therapy and never reach surgery. In acute leukemia trials, failure to achieve complete remission counts as an event at day one. Regulators have accepted EFS as a basis for approval in several perioperative settings.
2. Elastic File System

A managed network file system from AWS that many EC2 instances, containers and Lambda functions can mount at the same time using the NFS protocol, growing and shrinking automatically.
Example: All web servers mount the same EFS share, so uploaded images appear everywhere immediately.
Generally available since 2016. It suits shared content, home directories and lift-and-shift applications that expect a file system, but costs more per gigabyte than S3 or EBS. The separate Amazon FSx family offers Windows File Server, Lustre and other file systems.
