ECS stands for Elastic Container Service, a cloud computing abbreviation.
AWS's own container orchestration service for running Docker containers on EC2 instances or on serverless Fargate capacity, without operating Kubernetes.
Example: The API runs on ECS with Fargate, so there are no servers to patch.
Usage notes
Launched in 2014 and tightly integrated with AWS networking, load balancing and IAM. Many teams choose it for simplicity over Amazon's Kubernetes offering, EKS. Task definitions describe each container's image, CPU, memory and environment. In game development ECS means entity component system, an architecture pattern.
