1. Fresh frozen plasma

Medical · Hematology and Oncology Abbreviations

Plasma separated from donated blood and frozen within hours, containing all clotting factors. It is transfused to treat bleeding in patients with multiple clotting factor deficiencies, such as massive hemorrhage, liver disease and disseminated intravascular coagulation.

Example: Massive transfusion protocol: PRBC, FFP and platelets in 1:1:1 ratio.

Typical doses are 10 to 15 mL per kilogram. For urgent warfarin reversal, prothrombin complex concentrate is preferred because it works faster and needs much less volume. Group AB plasma is the universal donor type for plasma, the reverse of red cells. Overuse to "correct" mildly abnormal lab values before procedures exposes patients to transfusion risks without clear benefit.

2. Firm-fixed-price

Law & Legal · Contract Abbreviations · also used in business

Pricing arrangement in which the contractor agrees to deliver for a set price that does not change with its actual costs, placing maximum cost risk on the contractor. It is the preferred contract type in federal procurement when requirements are well defined.

Example: The award is FFP, so any overrun on the software integration comes out of our margin.

Described in FAR 16.202. At the other end of the spectrum are cost-reimbursement contracts, such as cost-plus-fixed-fee (CPFF), in which the government pays allowable costs. Variations include fixed-price with economic price adjustment and fixed-price incentive contracts.

3. Financial Fair Play

Sports · Soccer (Association Football) Abbreviations

UEFA rules introduced in 2011 requiring clubs in its competitions to roughly break even, limiting spending beyond what clubs earn from football. They were replaced in 2022 by financial sustainability regulations including a squad-cost ratio.

Example: Fans blamed FFP for the club's quiet transfer window.

Manchester City's two-year UEFA ban for FFP breaches was overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in 2020. The term is still used loosely for any club spending rules, including the Premier League's PSR.
