IDIQ stands for Indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity, a contract abbreviation.

Type of government contract that sets a minimum and maximum quantity of supplies or services over a fixed period, with specific work ordered through task orders or delivery orders as needs arise. It lets agencies buy recurring services without running a new competition each time.

Example: The agency awarded a five-year IDIQ with a $500 million ceiling to six vendors.

Usage notes

Governed by FAR Subpart 16.5. Multiple-award IDIQs require the agency to give each awardee a fair opportunity to compete for orders. Government-wide acquisition contracts (GWACs) are IDIQs that many agencies can use. The guaranteed minimum must be more than nominal for the contract to be binding.
