Second tier of NCAA Division I football, formerly Division I-AA, with roughly 128 teams that compete in a 24-team playoff for an NCAA national championship. Programs historically offered fewer scholarships than FBS schools.
Example: North Dakota State has won more FCS titles than any other program.
Renamed from Division I-AA in 2006. FCS teams often play "guarantee games" at FBS stadiums for large payouts and occasionally pull upsets, most famously Appalachian State's win at Michigan in 2007. North Dakota State won ten titles between 2011 and 2024.
2. Family and consumer sciences

School subject and field, formerly called home economics, covering nutrition and cooking, personal finance, child development, housing, textiles and career skills. The American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences adopted the new name in 1994.
