After the state funding change, some California districts scaled back GATE while others expanded universal screening. Services range from cluster grouping within classrooms to separate magnet programs. The abbreviation is usually written in capitals.

National exam in India for admission to master's and doctoral programs in engineering and science at the IITs, IISc and other institutions, organized in rotation by IISc and seven IITs. Many public sector companies also use GATE scores to recruit engineers.
Example: With a strong GATE score in electrical engineering, he received offers from two IITs and a power utility.
Scores remain valid for three years. Papers are offered in about 30 disciplines, and candidates may take up to two. Funded master's places at IITs often depend on GATE qualification.
