TSA PreCheck stands for Transportation Security Administration PreCheck, an aviation abbreviation.
US trusted-traveler program that lets preapproved low-risk travelers use expedited airport security lanes where they keep shoes, belts and light jackets on and leave laptops and permitted liquids in their bags. Enrollment involves fingerprinting, a background check and a fee for five years of membership.
Example: My boarding pass has TSA PreCheck printed on it, so I was through security in five minutes.
Usage notes
Launched in 2011 and opened to public enrollment in 2013. Members receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) that must be entered in each airline reservation for the indicator to appear on the boarding pass. Global Entry membership includes PreCheck benefits. Eligibility is not a guarantee: TSA still assigns random standard screening.
