SLED stands for Sustained low-efficiency dialysis, a nephrology & urology abbreviation.
Hybrid kidney replacement therapy that runs a standard hemodialysis machine at lower blood and dialysate flows for about 6–12 hours, often overnight. It offers some of the hemodynamic stability of CRRT with lower cost and simpler equipment.
Example: Weaning from CRRT to SLED nightly 8 hours as norepinephrine tapers.
Usage notes
Sometimes called prolonged intermittent renal replacement therapy (PIRRT) or extended daily dialysis. It frees patients from the machine during the day for mobilization and procedures. Pronounced "sled". Drug dosing guidance is less established than for CRRT.
