TDC stands for Tunneled dialysis catheter, a nephrology & urology abbreviation.

Cuffed central venous catheter, usually placed in the internal jugular vein and tunneled under the skin of the chest, that provides immediate access for hemodialysis. It bridges patients until a fistula or graft matures but carries the highest infection risk of any dialysis access.

Example: Fever during dialysis with right IJ TDC; blood cultures from catheter and periphery, start vancomycin.

Usage notes

The tunnel and cuff reduce infection compared with nontunneled temporary catheters. The subclavian vein is avoided because stenosis there can ruin future arm access. Catheter lock solutions such as heparin or citrate are instilled between sessions. Also called a permcath or tunneled cuffed catheter.
