UPCR stands for Urine protein-to-creatinine ratio, a nephrology & urology abbreviation.
Spot urine test that estimates daily protein loss: a ratio in mg/mg (or g/g) roughly equals grams of protein excreted per day. It is widely used to monitor glomerular diseases and to screen for preeclampsia.
Example: UPCR 4.2 consistent with nephrotic-range proteinuria; nephrology referral for biopsy.
Usage notes
A UPCR of 0.3 mg/mg or higher is one diagnostic criterion for preeclampsia. Unlike UACR, it captures all proteins, including light chains, which a dipstick may miss. Values are reported in mg/mmol in the UK, where 30 mg/mmol corresponds roughly to 0.3 g/g, so unit conversion matters when comparing reports.
