CategoriesMedical

UACR stands for Urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio, a laboratory test abbreviation.

Spot urine test comparing albumin with creatinine to detect kidney damage early, reported in mg/g. A value of 30 mg/g or more indicates albuminuria; KDIGO grades it A1 (below 30), A2 (30 to 300) and A3 (above 300), and it is checked yearly in people with diabetes alongside eGFR.

Example: UACR 186 mg/g on two samples; starting an SGLT2 inhibitor for kidney protection.

Usage notes

Also abbreviated ACR. Because exercise, fever, infection, menstruation and very high blood sugar can raise albumin temporarily, two of three samples over three to six months should be abnormal before diagnosing persistent albuminuria. The older term microalbuminuria (30 to 300 mg/g) has been dropped in favor of "moderately increased albuminuria".
