1. Renal cell carcinoma

The main type of kidney cancer in adults, arising from the lining of the kidney tubules. Clear cell RCC accounts for most cases; many tumors are now found incidentally on imaging, and small ones may be treated with partial nephrectomy, ablation or surveillance.
Example: Incidental 3.4 cm enhancing left renal mass, likely RCC; robotic partial nephrectomy planned.
The classic triad of blood in the urine, flank pain and a palpable mass appears in only a small minority today. Smoking, obesity, hypertension and von Hippel-Lindau disease raise risk. Advanced disease is treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors and VEGF-targeted drugs. Older texts call it hypernephroma.
2. Roman Catholic Church

Largest Christian church in the world, with about 1.4 billion members, led by the pope in Rome and organized in dioceses under bishops. The abbreviation appears in academic, ecumenical and journalistic writing.
Example: The RCC teaches that there are seven sacraments.
Catholics usually call it simply the Catholic Church, since it includes Eastern Catholic churches that are not of the Roman (Latin) rite. "Roman Catholic" became common in English after the Reformation to distinguish it from Anglicans and others who considered themselves catholic.
