NCLB stands for No Child Left Behind Act, a US law abbreviation.

Education law requiring states to test students annually in reading and math in grades 3 through 8 and once in high school, report results by student group and hold schools accountable for "adequate yearly progress" toward universal proficiency by 2014.

Example: Under NCLB, the school was labeled in need of improvement after missing its targets two years running.

Usage notes

President George W. Bush signed it on January 8, 2002 with bipartisan support; it reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. As the 2014 goal became unattainable, the Obama administration granted waivers to most states starting in 2011. The Every Student Succeeds Act replaced it in 2015.
