Usage notes
Originally the McCarran-Walter Act of 1952, passed over President Harry Truman's veto. The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, known as Hart-Celler, abolished national-origin quotas and created the family- and skill-based preference system still used today. Immigration lawyers cite INA section numbers, which differ from the U.S. Code section numbers.
