LMRA stands for Labor Management Relations Act, a US law abbreviation.
Law of 1947, better known as the Taft-Hartley Act, that amended the NLRA to restrict union practices, banning closed shops, secondary boycotts and jurisdictional strikes and allowing states to pass right-to-work laws. It also lets the President seek an 80-day injunction against strikes that threaten national safety.
Example: The President invoked the LMRA to seek a cooling-off period in the port strike.
Usage notes
It became law over President Harry Truman's veto. Section 14(b) is the basis for state right-to-work laws, now in effect in more than half the states. The law also created the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service and governs jointly managed union benefit funds known as Taft-Hartley plans.
