mt-sDNA stands for Multitarget stool DNA test, a gastroenterology abbreviation.
Colorectal cancer screening test combining detection of tumor-associated DNA changes with a fecal hemoglobin immunoassay, sold in the US as Cologuard. Average-risk adults collect a whole stool sample at home every three years, and a positive result requires colonoscopy.
Example: Prefers noninvasive screening, so mt-sDNA kit ordered; repeat in three years if negative.
Usage notes
Cologuard received FDA approval in 2014. The test is more sensitive than FIT for cancer but less specific, so it produces more false positives. Guidelines also write it as MT-sDNA or sDNA-FIT. It is not meant for people with prior adenomas, inflammatory bowel disease or a strong family history, who need colonoscopy.
