eNB stands for Evolved Node B, a telecom abbreviation.

Base station of a 4G LTE network, also written eNodeB, which handles radio communication with phones and many control functions that earlier generations placed in separate controllers.

Example: The eNB at the stadium was upgraded to support carrier aggregation for event days.

Usage notes

LTE's flatter architecture connects each eNB directly to the core network and lets neighboring eNBs coordinate over the X2 interface, speeding handovers. In early 5G non-standalone networks, the eNB acts as the anchor that phones connect to before adding 5G capacity. The "evolved" prefix reflects 3GPP's naming of LTE as the evolved UMTS radio access.
