FTTC stands for Fiber to the cabinet, a telecom abbreviation.
Broadband architecture in which fiber runs to a street cabinet and the final few hundred meters to the home use existing copper telephone lines with VDSL, giving speeds typically up to about 80 Mbit/s.
Example: It's FTTC, so the advertised "fibre broadband" actually reaches our house over copper.
Usage notes
FTTC was the backbone of UK "superfast" broadband in the 2010s. Advertising FTTC as "fibre broadband" drew long-running complaints, and under Ofcom rules confirmed in December 2023 and in force since September 2024, providers must label services as full-fibre, part-fibre, copper or cable rather than simply "fibre". Speeds depend on distance from the cabinet.
