1. Bahraini dinar
Business & Finance · Currency Abbreviations
Bahrain's currency and the second-highest-valued currency unit in the world, pegged to the US dollar at 0.376 dinar, about 2.66 dollars. It is divided into 1,000 fils.
Example: Dinner for two in Manama came to BHD 30.
Introduced in 1965, the dinar replaced the Gulf rupee issued by India for use in the Gulf. The Central Bank of Bahrain manages the peg. Like other Gulf dinars, it uses a thousand fils rather than a hundred subunits.
2. Berhad (public limited company) (Bhd)
Business & Finance · Company Type Abbreviations
Malaysian suffix for a public limited company, which may offer shares to the public and list on Bursa Malaysia. "Berhad" is Malay for "limited," and on its own it marks a public rather than a private company.
Example: Shares of Malayan Banking Bhd, known as Maybank, trade on Bursa Malaysia.
Written Bhd or Bhd. after the name. Private Malaysian companies add "Sendirian" (Sdn Bhd). Companies limited by guarantee, such as foundations and associations, also end their names with "Berhad," so not every Bhd is a listed business.
