1. Chilean peso
Business & Finance · Currency Abbreviations
Chile's currency, issued by the Banco Central de Chile and quoted in whole pesos without subunits. Inflation-indexed contracts use a separate accounting unit, the UF (Unidad de Fomento).
Example: A Santiago metro ride costs about CLP 800 at peak times.
The UF, created in 1967, adjusts daily for inflation and is used to price mortgages, rents and some salaries, making it one of the world's best-known indexed units. The peso tends to move with the price of copper, Chile's main export. Locally it is written $.
2. Commercial learner's permit
Transportation & Travel · Driving Abbreviations
Permit that lets a trainee practice driving a commercial vehicle on public roads while accompanied by a qualified CDL holder. A CLP holder must wait at least 14 days before taking the CDL skills test.
Example: She passed the knowledge tests, got her CLP and started behind-the-wheel training the next week.
Federal rules standardized the CLP in 2011. The permit is issued after the CDL knowledge tests and a medical examination. Trainees with a CLP generally cannot carry hazardous materials or passengers other than their trainer and examiners.
