1. Antiphospholipid syndrome

Autoimmune condition in which persistent antiphospholipid antibodies (lupus anticoagulant, anticardiolipin, anti-beta-2 glycoprotein I) cause blood clots in veins or arteries and pregnancy complications such as recurrent miscarriage and preeclampsia.
Example: Triple-positive APS with prior stroke; continue warfarin INR 2–3, avoid DOACs.
Antibodies must be confirmed on two occasions at least 12 weeks apart. Warfarin is preferred over direct oral anticoagulants in high-risk patients after the TRAPS trial (2018) found more arterial clots with rivaroxaban. Also called Hughes syndrome. A rare catastrophic form causes multiorgan clotting over days.

State and local social services programs that investigate reports of abuse, neglect, self-neglect and financial exploitation of older adults and adults with disabilities, and arrange services to protect them.
Example: Her bank flagged the suspicious withdrawals and filed a report with APS.
APS programs are run under state law, so eligibility ages and procedures differ. The Elder Justice Act of 2010 created the first dedicated federal support, administered by the Administration for Community Living. Banks increasingly report suspected elder financial exploitation to APS.
3. American Physical Society

Leading US society of physicists, which publishes the Physical Review journals, including Physical Review Letters, and holds major physics meetings each year.
Example: The result was published in Physical Review Letters, an APS journal.
Founded in 1899 at Columbia University, it has about 50,000 members. Its March Meeting is one of the largest physics conferences in the world. In psychology, APS means the Association for Psychological Science.
4. Anpartsselskab (private limited company) (ApS)

Danish private limited company, the most common company form in Denmark, whose ownership units (anparter) cannot be offered to the public. Minimum share capital is DKK 40,000.
Example: The Copenhagen design studio is registered as an ApS with three owners.
Denmark briefly allowed an IVS (entrepreneurial company) with capital of DKK 1 from 2014 to 2019, after which existing IVSs had to convert into ApS companies or dissolve. Written ApS after the name, with a lowercase p.
