CDBG stands for Community Development Block Grant, a public program abbreviation.
HUD formula grant that gives cities, counties and states flexible funding for housing rehabilitation, public facilities, infrastructure and economic development, with most of the money required to benefit low- and moderate-income people.
Example: The city spent its CDBG allocation on sidewalks and a new senior center.
Usage notes
The Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 established it, consolidating several older urban programs. Local governments decide how to use the funds after public hearings. After major disasters Congress often appropriates separate CDBG-DR money for long-term recovery.
