ACLR stands for Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, a musculoskeletal & rheumatology abbreviation.
Surgery that replaces a torn ACL with a tendon graft, usually through arthroscopic tunnels in the femur and tibia. Common autografts are the patellar tendon (BTB), hamstring and quadriceps tendons, while allografts come from donors.
Example: Post-op week 6 after left ACLR with hamstring autograft; full extension achieved, start closed-chain strengthening.
Usage notes
Return to sport generally takes at least nine months, and returning earlier is associated with higher reinjury rates. Graft failure and injury to the opposite knee are significant risks in young athletes. Rehabilitation focuses on extension, quadriceps strength and neuromuscular control. Allografts fail more often in young, active patients.
