DAS28 stands for Disease Activity Score in 28 joints, a musculoskeletal & rheumatology abbreviation.
Composite measure of rheumatoid arthritis activity combining tender and swollen counts in 28 joints, ESR or CRP, and the patient's global assessment. Scores below 2.6 indicate remission, up to 3.2 low activity, and above 5.1 high activity.
Example: DAS28-ESR 2.4 at 6 months: remission achieved, continue current regimen.
Usage notes
The 28-joint count omits the feet and ankles, so active foot disease can be missed. Variants are labeled DAS28-ESR or DAS28-CRP, and they are not interchangeable. Other measures include the CDAI and SDAI. Regular scoring supports treat-to-target strategies.
