1. Warner Bros.

Organizations & Companies · Media and Broadcasting Abbreviations

American film and television studio, one of the major Hollywood studios, behind the Harry Potter, DC, Lord of the Rings and Looney Tunes franchises. Its studio lot is in Burbank, California.

Example: The WB shield appears before every Harry Potter film.

Founded on April 4, 1923, by brothers Harry, Albert, Sam and Jack Warner. Its 1927 film The Jazz Singer was the first feature with synchronized dialogue. "The WB" was also the name of a TV network from 1995 to 2006, which merged with UPN to form the CW.

2. Westbound

Geography & Places · Direction Abbreviations

Shorthand for westbound traffic, used on highway signs, traffic reports and transit timetables, as in WB Route 9.

Example: The WB Blue Line trains are running about 10 minutes late.

WB also means welcome back in texting and Warner Bros. in entertainment.

3. Welcome back

Texting & Internet Slang · Texting and Chat Abbreviations

Greets someone returning to a chat, game, stream or online space after an absence, often after they said "brb" or reconnected from a dropped connection.

Example: Wb, we started the next level without you, sorry.

Common in IRC, Discord and online gaming, where "wb" is the standard reply to a returning player. In entertainment, WB usually means Warner Bros., which context makes clear. Friendly and quick, and fine in casual work chat.

4. Weber (Wb)

Units & Measurements · Metric and SI Unit Abbreviations

The SI unit of magnetic flux, equal to one volt-second. Flux through a coil changing at one weber per second induces one volt, the principle behind generators and transformers.

Example: The transformer core flux peaks at 2.5 mWb at full load.

Named for German physicist Wilhelm Eduard Weber. Magnetic flux density, flux per unit area, is measured in teslas: 1 T equals 1 Wb/m². The older CGS unit of flux is the maxwell, equal to 10^-8 Wb. The symbol's lowercase b separates it from W, the watt.

5. Wing-back

Sports · Soccer (Association Football) Abbreviations

Wide player in a back three or five who covers the entire flank, defending like a full-back and attacking like a winger. Lineups label them LWB and RWB.

Example: The coach switched to a back three with two attacking WB to stretch the play.

Wing-backs became common in the 3-5-2 and later the 3-4-3 used by Antonio Conte at Chelsea in 2016-17. The role demands high stamina because there is no winger in front for support.
