UFL stands for United Football League, a sports league and organization abbreviation.
US spring professional football league formed in 2024 by merging the XFL and USFL, playing from late March to a championship game in June. Its rules include a choice of one-, two- or three-point conversion tries after touchdowns.
Example: The Birmingham Stallions won the first UFL championship game in June 2024.
Usage notes
The merger combined four teams from each league into an eight-team circuit. An unrelated United Football League operated as a fall league from 2009 to 2012. Spring leagues such as the UFL serve as a showcase for players hoping to earn NFL contracts.
