WRC stands for World Rally Championship, a sports league and organization abbreviation.
FIA world championship for rallying, in which drivers and co-drivers race against the clock over closed stages of gravel, snow and asphalt rather than wheel to wheel. About 13 rounds a year include classics such as Rally Monte Carlo, Rally Finland and Safari Rally Kenya.
Example: Sébastien Loeb won nine consecutive WRC titles from 2004 to 2012.
Usage notes
The championship has run since 1973, with a drivers' title since 1979. Each rally has many timed stages, and the lowest combined time wins. Cars are based on production models, currently in the Rally1 hybrid category introduced in 2022. Co-drivers read "pace notes" describing the road ahead.
