TNK stands for Tenecteplase, a drug abbreviation.
Genetically modified tissue plasminogen activator given as a single IV bolus to dissolve clots in heart attacks and, increasingly, acute ischemic stroke. Brand name TNKase.
Example: TNK 0.25 mg/kg IV bolus (max 25 mg) given at 1426 for LVO stroke.
Usage notes
The FDA approved tenecteplase for acute ischemic stroke in 2025, adding to its earlier heart attack indication. Its single-bolus dosing is simpler than alteplase's bolus plus one-hour infusion. ISMP warns that "TNK" and "TPA" have been confused, and stroke and heart attack doses differ, so full drug names and weight-based doses should be used.
