SRBM stands for Short-range ballistic missile, a weapon and military equipment abbreviation.
Ballistic missile with a range of up to about 1,000 kilometers, typically launched from mobile vehicles and used against bases, cities and troop concentrations within a theater of war.
Example: Russia fired Iskander SRBMs at targets in western Ukraine overnight.
Usage notes
The Soviet-designed Scud, used by Iraq in the 1991 Gulf War, is the best-known SRBM. Modern SRBMs, such as Russia's Iskander and China's DF-15 family, are far more accurate. Short flight times give defenders only minutes of warning.
