SO-DIMM stands for Small outline dual inline memory module, a computer hardware abbreviation.
Compact memory module used in laptops, mini PCs and some all-in-one computers, about half the length of a desktop DIMM. DDR4 SO-DIMMs have 260 pins and DDR5 versions 262 pins.
Example: The mini PC has two SO-DIMM slots, so I upgraded it to 64 GB myself.
Usage notes
Also written SODIMM. Many thin laptops have abandoned SO-DIMMs for soldered LPDDR memory to save space and power, which makes upgradable models a selling point. SO-DIMM modules are not interchangeable between generations, and adapters to desktop slots are rare and mostly used for testing. The newer CAMM2 standard aims to replace SO-DIMM in laptops.
