NRSV stands for New Revised Standard Version, a religious term abbreviation.

English translation published in 1989 under the National Council of Churches, widely used in mainline Protestant churches, Catholic and ecumenical scholarship and university courses. Editions include the deuterocanonical books, making it suitable for many traditions.

Example: The seminary assigns the NRSV for all introductory Bible courses.

Usage notes

It revised the RSV and introduced gender-inclusive language for people where the original meaning includes both men and women. Bruce Metzger chaired the translation committee. An updated edition, the NRSVue, appeared in 2021.
