OCA stands for Orthodox Church in America, a religious term abbreviation.
Eastern Orthodox church whose roots go back to Russian missionaries who arrived in Alaska in 1794, granted self-governance (autocephaly) by the Moscow Patriarchate in 1970. Its services are mostly in English.
Example: The OCA cathedral in Washington celebrates the Divine Liturgy every Sunday.
Usage notes
Not all Orthodox churches recognize its autocephaly, and many American Orthodox Christians belong to Greek, Antiochian, Serbian and other jurisdictions instead. The OCA's first saints include Herman of Alaska. OCA also abbreviates Orthodox Christian associations in other contexts.
