MOP stands for Massive Ordnance Penetrator, a weapon and military equipment abbreviation.
GBU-57A/B, a precision-guided bomb of about 30,000 pounds designed to penetrate deep underground before exploding, built to destroy hardened bunkers and buried facilities. Only the B-2 bomber carries it.
Example: Only a B-2 can carry the MOP to deeply buried targets such as underground enrichment sites.
Usage notes
Testing and development took place over more than a decade, with repeated upgrades to its fuzing and guidance. It is heavier than the MOAB but relies on penetration rather than blast. Its development reflected concern about deeply buried targets in Iran and North Korea.
