NLAW stands for Next-generation Light Anti-tank Weapon, a weapon and military equipment abbreviation.

Shoulder-fired, disposable anti-tank missile developed by Saab with Thales for the British Army, designed to destroy tanks at short range with a top-attack mode. It needs little training to use.

Example: Ukrainian soldiers used NLAWs to ambush Russian tanks in the suburbs of Kyiv.

Usage notes

The United Kingdom supplied thousands of NLAWs to Ukraine in early 2022, and the weapon became a symbol of resistance in the war's first weeks. Unlike Javelin, it is designed for short ranges and quick use. Pronounced "EN-law."
