J1772 stands for SAE J1772 charging connector, an automotive abbreviation.
Standard plug for Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging of electric vehicles in North America, used by nearly every non-Tesla EV sold there until the shift to NACS. Most public Level 2 chargers have a J1772 handle.
Example: The hotel's J1772 chargers add about 25 miles of range per hour overnight.
Usage notes
Named after the SAE International standard number and often called a "J plug." Level 2 charging through J1772 typically delivers 6 to 19 kilowatts. Tesla drivers use a small adapter to plug into J1772 stations. CCS1 builds on the J1772 shape by adding DC pins beneath it.
