Hons stands for Honours (honors degree), a degree abbreviation.
Label added to a British or Commonwealth bachelor's degree, as in "BA (Hons)", showing that the student completed the full honours course, usually including a dissertation, and received a classification. UK classifications run from first-class through upper second (2:1) and lower second (2:2) to third.
Example: She graduated with a BSc (Hons) in psychology with first-class honours.
Usage notes
An "ordinary" or "pass" degree without honours is awarded when a student does not meet the honours requirements. In Scotland, Australia and New Zealand honours often means an extra year after a three-year bachelor's. In the US the term instead refers to Latin honors (cum laude) or an honors college.
