HCSB stands for Holman Christian Standard Bible, a religious term abbreviation.
English translation published by Holman Bible Publishers, with the New Testament in 1999 and the full Bible in 2004, known for using "Yahweh" in some Old Testament passages and "Messiah" for "Christ" in certain contexts. It was replaced by the CSB in 2017.
Example: Our older Sunday school quarterlies quote the HCSB.
Usage notes
The translation was produced for the Southern Baptist publishing house after a dispute over permission to use the NIV. Copies remain in use, but new printings use the CSB. Its chief editor was Arthur Farstad, who also led the NKJV project.
