FTPS stands for FTP Secure, a networking abbreviation.
Classic FTP with TLS encryption added, either negotiated with an AUTH TLS command on port 21 (explicit mode) or required from the start on port 990 (implicit mode). It keeps FTP's separate control and data connections and uses certificates as HTTPS does.
Example: The bank only accepts uploads over explicit FTPS with a client certificate.
Usage notes
Standardized in RFC 4217 (2005). Because data connections open on dynamic ports and are encrypted, firewalls cannot inspect them to open the right holes, so FTPS is harder to run through NAT than SFTP. Also called FTP-SSL or FTP over TLS. Do not confuse it with SFTP, which runs over SSH.
