EIGRP stands for Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol, a networking abbreviation.
An advanced distance-vector routing protocol developed by Cisco that uses the DUAL (Diffusing Update Algorithm) to keep loop-free backup routes ready, giving very fast convergence. By default it calculates route cost from bandwidth and delay.
Example: Redistribute the EIGRP routes into OSPF at the border router of the acquired company.
Usage notes
Introduced in the early 1990s as the successor to Cisco's IGRP and long proprietary, it was published as informational RFC 7868 in 2016. EIGRP remains common in all-Cisco enterprise networks and on CCNA and CCNP exams. It is sometimes called a "hybrid" protocol because it borrows ideas from link-state designs.
