FFWB stands for Foot-flat weight bearing, a rehabilitation abbreviation.
Weight-bearing order allowing the whole foot to rest flat on the ground with very light loading, mainly the weight of the leg itself. It reduces muscle forces across the hip compared with holding the leg in the air.
Example: FFWB R hip with walker; avoid hip flexion beyond 90 degrees.
Usage notes
Holding a leg completely off the floor can actually increase hip joint forces, which is why some surgeons prefer foot-flat to NWB after hip fractures. It is used less often than TTWB or TDWB. Orders should name the limb and duration.
