FWB stands for Full weight bearing, a rehabilitation abbreviation.

Order or status allowing the patient to place full body weight on the affected limb without restriction. It usually follows healing of a fracture or repair, or immediately after many joint replacements.

Example: Cleared FWB at 8-week visit; wean from walker to cane.

Usage notes

Many modern hip and knee replacement protocols allow full weight bearing on the day of surgery. Even with FWB, patients may still need devices because of weakness or balance problems. FWB differs from WBAT in that comfort is not the stated limit.
