1. Estimated due date

Medical · Obstetrics & Gynecology Abbreviations

Projected date of delivery, set 280 days (40 weeks) after the first day of the last menstrual period or determined by early ultrasound. It anchors gestational age for all prenatal testing, monitoring and delivery planning.

Example: EDD revised to 6/02 based on CRL at 9 weeks, 8 days earlier than LMP dating.

Only a small percentage of babies are born on their exact due date; most arrive within about two weeks either side. ACOG recommends that first-trimester ultrasound measurement of crown-rump length is the most accurate dating method and that the EDD be changed if it differs from LMP dating by more than seven days before 14 weeks. Also called the estimated date of delivery.

2. Doctor of Education (EdD)

Education & Academia · Degree Abbreviations

Professional doctorate for educational leaders such as superintendents, principals, college administrators and policy specialists, usually three to four years and often completed while working. Programs stress applying research to problems of practice, increasingly through a "dissertation in practice" rather than a traditional theoretical dissertation.

Example: Our new superintendent earned her EdD in educational leadership while serving as an assistant principal.

Written Ed.D. Harvard created the degree in 1920, and in 2014 it converted its EdD into a PhD in Education alongside the Doctor of Education Leadership (EdLD) launched in 2010. Since 2007 the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED) has worked to distinguish the EdD from the research PhD. Holders are addressed as Dr.

3. Enhanced due diligence

Business & Finance · Banking Abbreviations

More intensive checks applied to high-risk customers, such as politically exposed persons, clients from high-risk countries or businesses handling large amounts of cash. EDD may include verifying the source of wealth and funds, senior management approval and more frequent reviews.

Example: Because the client is a former minister, the account requires EDD and annual review by the compliance committee.

EDD goes beyond standard customer due diligence and is required by FATF standards for certain risk categories. Private banks routinely apply it to wealthy international clients. In medicine, EDD means estimated date of delivery.
