1. Dry sterile dressing

Medical · Nursing Abbreviations

Simple wound covering of sterile gauze, often held with tape or a transparent film, applied to closed incisions or minor wounds that need protection rather than moisture management. Orders specify how often to change it.

Example: Remove surgical dressing POD 2, then DSD daily until incision dry.

Many closed surgical incisions need only a dry dressing for the first one to two days, after which they can be left open. Wet or saturated gauze should be replaced because it can let bacteria wick through. Transparent films allow inspection without removal.

2. Direct store delivery

Business & Finance · Logistics, Supply Chain & Trade Abbreviations

Distribution method in which suppliers deliver products straight to retail stores and often stock shelves themselves, bypassing the retailer's distribution centers. It is common for beverages, snacks, bread and magazines.

Example: The chips arrive by DSD, and the vendor's merchandiser stocks the aisle.

DSD lets manufacturers control freshness and merchandising but costs more than warehouse delivery. Major DSD networks are run by soft drink bottlers and snack makers.

3. Dear stepdaughter

Texting & Internet Slang · Parenting Forum Abbreviations

Code for the poster's stepdaughter on blended-family forums, as in "DSD is 14 and struggling with the move."

Example: DSD wants to redecorate her room before she moves in full time.

Used with DSS (dear stepson). Stepfamily forums often pair these codes with BM (the child's biological mother) and BD (biological father) when describing co-parenting arrangements across two households.
